Astrata

Astrata is a digital quality company that offers a full suite of products and services for health plans and value-driven providers who are moving from paper-based clinical quality measures to digital clinical quality measures.

To help solve for some of the challenges in the quality ecosystem, the industry is driving standardization. HEDIS is incredibly valuable for quality improvement and benchmarking at the health plan level. That being said, in the digital age, with data more readily available, there’s an opportunity to make measurement more accessible and actionable closer to the point of care. That would allow clinicians and organizations to better manage populations, support more equitable care and drive better outcomes, because things are happening proactively rather than reactively. As you know, NCQA is moving to year-round chart review which for most orgs is going to be impossible with their present workflows.

Astrata was a spin out of UPMC and they have helped the UPMC Health Plan move to year-round population HEDIS review across MA, Medicaid and SNP populations, which is around 750K members. UPMC used Astrata to develop a surveillance and rapid response program for OMW gaps and reduced the time between the fracture and the quality improvement from 57 days to 9 days. Just to give you a sense of the kind of efficiency Astrata powers, a team of 8 abstractors and reviewers working part time over 6 months closed 25K gaps in Medicare, Medicaid, and SNP populations during the MY2021 HEDIS off season.

Astrata was selected by NCQA to Beta test the new digital measures and Astrata’s eMeasure will be the first FHIR-native digital measure engines to be certified.
